U13 Surrey Division 6 Shield

Last Match of the Season U13B v Kingston Home Won 50:12

A fantastic end to a fantastic season. Winning our last league match against our toughest oppostion by 7 tries to 2 was the icing on the cake. We have scored over 300 points in league matches and conceded less than 30 on the way becoming Division 6 Champions. We have also recorded wins in friendly fixtures against three of the teams in Division 5. Most importantly we now have a squad of nearly 30 players and everyone is looking forward enormously to next season.

U13B's v Kingston U13A's Away Won 34-5

Faced with our biggest challenge in the league this season, a “must win” match and several of our strong players unable to play, Paul and Simon as stand-in coaches asked the boys to pull out all the stops and play their best rugby and that’s exactly what they did! The most satisfying aspect was seeing how well the boys played as a team, with the Forwards winning the ball and getting it out for the Backs to score.

The tries were scored by Joe Ribton, Cieren Hoban, Mathew Stevens (2 tries), Jamie Barr and James Wakefield. Two tries were converted (Seb Elledge & Thomas Cooper).

U13B's v Farnham Away Won 43:0

This was our best match of the season so far and was a total team effort with the forwards doing a huge job in winning clean ball for Cieran (best game so far thsi season) to pass out quickly to the backs setting up the scoring opportuinities.

Our forwards did exactly as the coaches asked, getting to the breakdown in threes and fours, driving the mauls and cleaning out the rucks very well. Our scrum was dominant, winning many feeds against the head. Our line-out performed much better thanks to coaching from Peter Leefe and Paul Waters.

U13B's V Kings U13B Home Friendly Lost 17:21

A fantastic game played in perfect weather and in great spirit. We led the match for 49 minutes out of the 50 and only a last gasp try won the match for Kings. Overall this was a great improvement in the 10:0 loss v Kings earlier in the season.

It was also excellent training for us to step up a gear and face some tough opposition. They tackled, rucked and mauled as well as us and in the end both teams scored 3 tries. Their tries were scored under or near the posts and converted which made the 4 point difference in the score line.

U13B's V Rosslyn Park U13B Home Won 49:0

Another comprehensive victory however this was against 14 players which does detract a little from the glory. We cannot afford to be complacent with Kingston putting a good win over Farnham who in turn have beaten Old Alleynians quite comfortably.

U13B's V Old Alleynians Away Won 41:0

After much conferring, texts, emails and phone calls the match was finally played!

It was a much tougher game than the result suggests with some new recruits into the OA's (especially their No8) making some searing breaks. We tackled valiently and dominated the close forward work winning most scrums, rucks and mauls and went in deservedly at half-time with a 12:0 lead from tries by Luke Harvey-Smith and Cieran Hoban and a conversion by Seb Elledge.

U13B v Farnham Home Won 73:0

Our second league match saw us destroy another team posting 11 tries and 73 unanswered points. Again it was a great display of forward domination coupled with exciting back play.

Try Scorers (I hope I have the try scorers correct, apologies if not):

Noah Jervis - (who only played one half) got a Hatrick, conveted one of his tries and is top try scorer!
Mathew Stevens - Back of the Match - Got a Hatrick
James Wakefield 1
Jack Kremer 1 (Also kicked 5/7 conversions)
Luke Harvey-Smith 1
Sam Hallala 1
Jonathan Leefe 1 (Forward Man of the Match)

U13B v Old Alleynians Home Won 72:12

What a fantastic score line and a convincing win to start our first league match of the season!

Everyone played their part, it was truly a great team effort and it was superb to see how many lessons have been learned from all the training and matches we have played so far. We passed out of the tackle or went to ground and unselfishly rucked to give good quality possession to the backs. The backs made good decisions almost all the time and the ball was passed regularly to the outside centre, wings and to the full back.
